i-CAT

In Edmonton, Alberta

i-CAT is an advanced imaging system that gives Dr. Pavlenko a detailed, high-resolution 3-D picture of your dental anatomy, allowing for precise assessment of your dental condition and accurate planning of any dental restoration.  This advanced system is a quick and comfortable way for Dr. Pavlenko to locate and evaluate any dental problems, ensuring that you receive the exact treatment you need.

What is i-CAT?

i-CAT is an advanced form of computer-aided tomography (CAT, sometimes called computed tomography, CT), known as cone-beam.  You might think of the machine as similar to an old coin-operated photo booth.  You sit down in the chair, and it takes a series of pictures, which are then assembled by the computer into a three-dimensional image of your dental anatomy.

What are the benefits of i-CAT?

First, i-CAT is comfortable and quick.  Instead of the old bitewing x-rays, you just sit in a chair and, in less than a minute for most cases--and sometimes as little as 8.5 seconds!--, it performs its scan.  Then, once the image is constructed, you can see what Dr. Pavlenko sees, so he can explain to you in detail what your dental issues are and clearly lay out your treatment options, so you can make an informed decision about how to proceed.

i-CAT also helps Dr. Pavlenko assess areas of concern in high-resolution and 3-D.  This can aid in planning and ensure that you receive the best possible treatment.  The i-CAT allows Dr. Pavlenko to image parts of the head and mouth, such as the temporomandibular joint, that are sometimes poorly viewed with more traditional tools.  Also, the data is easily transportable, so Dr. Pavlenko can work more effectively with other dental professionals, like orthodontists, when necessary.

i-CAT useful for many procedures

If you are considering any significant dental treatment, the imaging power of the i-CAT can be extremely useful.  Of course, it is crucial to assessing the current state of your teeth in preparation for a full mouth reconstruction.  i-CAT imaging can be used to assess the state of your jawbone to determine whether dental implants are a good option for replacing missing teeth.  i-CAT can also be used to supplement more traditional neuromuscular dentistry diagnosis tools like the K7 system.  This can improve the diagnosis and treatment of TMJ in many cases.
